Un formulario W9 en Español What is an LLC?

What is an LLC?

  • It is a Limited Liability Company

  • Some would be a C-Corporation

  • S-Corporation

  • Partnership

  • Etc.

What does the IRS say to do when filling out a W9?

The IRS tells us not to put a check in the Limited Liability Company box.
For a C-corporation, an S-corporation or a partnership.
They want you to fill in the LLC's name and it's FID number.
You are then asked to make a check mark in the proper tax classification box.

This is interesting

You as a single person own the LLC as a member.
So then you would put in the owners social-security number rather than the LLC's FID number.

You should write in the name of the business on the "Business" name section and the name of the owner in the "Name" section.
If the LLC is owned by a single member, you would have to put in the tax classification of the owner.

If one LLC is owned by another LLC then you are required to put in the tax classification of the parent LLC, and add a check mark to the LLC box.

Mandatory Backup Withholding

If you are subject to backup withholding then before you submit the form you have to look to the Certification section and cross out the second section of three lines that starts with:

2. I am not subject to backup withholding .....

You really should read the form's instructions in the areas that you are working on. This will help you to be accurate in filling it out.

I have filled out many W9 forms and learned that after you fill out one or two it becomes remarkably simple the following times.
